I saw a comment on Facebook from Garry which said that a lot of people at the corps were unaware of how ill Stuart Jenkins is. You may be interested to read this article about him. http://www.newsshopper.co.uk /news/bromnews/display.var.2 420938.0.musician_in_despera te_battle_to_get_funding_for _operation.php

Those of us who are friends with him on Facebook have known of his condition for some time and have been praying for him, and that his appeal is successful.

Hello Hilton and all at Bristol Easton Salvation Army. Just thought I should let you know that I often think about you all especially when I tune in to the internet to listen to your services. I really enjoy that. I haven't settled in to a church over here in Canada as they haven't got the spirit of Bristol Easton. You really spoilt me. I have tried the Salvation Army in Victoria twice but we really didn't like their services-probably why their pews are so empty. A nearly brand new church with only a handful of people there. Anyway, we are hoping to move very soon, on up the island so I am hoping and praying that we will find a better place of worship up there. We were so sorry to hear of Georges passing. He was a wonderful saint of God. He is now in a better place, Praise The Lord for his life!!! Howard & Sylvia

A wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year to you all. I have thought about you carolling in the cold and wet whilst I have been enjoying Sydney in temperatures in the 20s, though I have seen some showers! I am thoroughly enjoying my time with Kate and Mat and we are looking forward to Robert's arrival tomorrow. I think I have visited most venues in the guide book and have enjoyed the museums learning something more about the Aboriginal culture and the first European settlers. When Robert arrives everything gets more adventurous with climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge (I think I'll just watch), a visit to the Blue Mountains, scuba diving in Cairns, etc. Kate is 28 on Christmas Day so this will be a very special occasion for us this year.

I have enjoyed reading the Weekly News.

Love to you all and God Bless.

Ruth.

Greetings,
As well as being a Bandsman and the CSM of Gosport Corps I am also serving in the Royal Navy.
I have been asked about music to 'sing along to' for use in church services on ships at sea where either there are no musicians with instruments or no-one able to play keyboard. I suggested possibly using your CDs Hymns & More Hymns for Everyone. There is a good range of old and new, fast and slow and, whilst not every church occasion might be catered for, there is a general selection. Some of the 'arrangements' do not easily lend themselves to accompanying singing but it is a start...
I fully appreciate your copyright attached to your work but wonder if it would be possible to come to an arrangement for this extension to your ministry.
I know that there are more technical answers to this - I download and use midi files via Sibelius on my laptop - but not all my colleagues at sea have those facilities or the knowledge.
Many thanks,
Paul Attrell

You'll forgive my honesty but I recall, in the 1950s at Easton Road, being bored out of my silly mind listening to the lengthy exploits of missionaries just returned from Chikankata! I remember thinking how wrong we were to export our "cultural" religion to those overseas who have a whole different way of life to ours. (Bear in mind I was only in my teens.) I still think there maybe some arguments in favour of this sentiment. However listenting to the meeting on the net last Sunday (Nov. 25th) it was interseting to see that the tables have been turned and a group from Chikankata have come here to evangelise to us. So perhaps those 50s missionaries did some good after all!
Best wishes to all at Easton.
Bernard Thornett soldier at Hendon Corps

Hi, i am trying to trace John Newell, a past (and present?) member of Bristol Eastern Salvation army band. He was a trombone player, as was his brother Andrew.
If anyone knows John please tell him his Barnsley college friends are looking for him, and to sign up to 'Facebook' as we have a reunion group on there and would love to get back in touch with him.
Many thanks :)

Hi. I am trying to trace Barbara Savage as she was when I was a soldier at Bristol Easton in 1975, would love to catch up. It was great to see the band at Ilford Corps a couple of years ago. Any other soldiers who remember me I send my best wishes, hope to maybe get back to Easton at end of year for a sunday.
Jeanette
