Bristol Easton celebrated its 59th Annual Spring Festival with special guests Leslie Neish (tuba) Bristol Cathedral Chamber Choir and Deputy Songster Leader Susan Blythe (Gillingham).
Leslie Neish (Northern Ireland) featured a number of Army solos, each played to perfection and these included Leslie Condon’s ‘Celestial Morn’, and Stephen Bulla’s ‘The Higher Plane’. He capped the evening with a scintillating demonstration of virtuoso playing in the form of Monti’s ‘Czardas’ arranged by Bandmaster Jonathan Corry.
Bristol Cathedral Chamber Choir produced a mature sound and brought majestic Choral music beautifully presented and included in their items was Parry’s ‘I was Glad’, as well as lesser known church music composed by Bruckner and Brahms.
Deputy Songster Leader Susan Blythe provided three songs each providing its own challenging message, which was especially evident in the lovely rendition of ‘Broken Pieces’ especially written by Andrew Blythe and which, when explained by Susan provided the listener with reassurance that God can use every circumstance of life to increase our faith.
Bristol Easton Band provided support with their main piece of music ‘Romans 8’.
Major Paul Main was to have been the weekend leader but having been taken ill shortly before the weekend was unable to fulfil the engagement. Major Jean Bradbury (DHQ) deputised in the morning meeting using Major Paul Main’s planned meeting, and in the evening Major Main’s plans were also fulfilled by local leadership.
